Biography

Jeffrey Apana, an active oboist and English hornist, has been in south Florida since 1993, where he has played for the Florida Philharmonic, Florida Grand Opera, Seaside Music Theater, the Boca Pops, Miami Chamber Symphony, and Palm Beach Opera, to name a few. He also teaches oboe at Palm Beach Atlantic University.

He first began working for the Local as assistant to former Trustee Richard Gabriel. Some of his ongoing projects have been: upgrading the computer system, setting up the computer network, publishing the newsletter, creating the MPTF and Referral Program databases, and creating and maintaining the Local 655 web pages.  He has made the Local accountable to the membership for every dollar collected and spent.  He was also instrumental in organizing the Seaside Music Theater Orchestra for union representation and served on the  negotiating committee to establish their first collective bargaining agreement.

"I dropped in one day, was impressed by what Dick Gabriel wanted to do, and was drawn by the opportunity to build the Local into something that can really make a difference in the lives of professional musicians."
