02/20/05 Local 655 Hosts Sit-In Night at JAZZIZ Bistro
Every Monday from 8pm to 12am is "Sit In Night" at JAZZIZ Bistro. The Bistro Rhythm section (Jim Gasior on piano, Jeff Carswell on bass and Mike Harvey on drums) are there to keep it all together. Have a good time and show the Bistro what you've got!Local 655 has been scheduling and contracting the entertainment for JAZZIZ Bistro, located at the Seminole Hardrock and Casino’s Seminole Paradise, since December. There are seven nights a week of entertainment, with two acts performing on most Sundays, all under union contracts. JAZZIZ Bistro has brought new income to jazz musicians in our area, new income to Local 655. Members can send promo kits to the Local 655 for possible bookings at JAZZIZ.

Even Priests Want A Union
Following in the footsteps of a few rabbis and some 1500 priests in England, Canadian clergy members are now seeking union representation through the Canadian Auto Workers Union. Citing low pay, stressful working conditions, and psychological and physical abuse by parishioners, the clergy members feel a union presence will help them find relief that traditional church channels have been unable to provide.

Recording Musicians Association forms South Florida Chapter
The Recording Musicians Association (RMA), a players’ conference of the AFM representing recording musicians, has established a chapter in south Florida. The RMA currently has chapters in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, San Francisco, San Antonio, and Spokane.

2005 begins with a noticeable upswing in morale around here. I’ve been busy tracking down money, enforcing agreements, referring musicians, coordinating projects, recruiting, educating, signing up new signatories, and learning more about our industry. The positive feedback I receive energizes me to take on the considerable work that lies ahead.

The Right Frame of Mind
All it took was the right frame of mind. I am happy to report that since mid-December, your Local 655 has been scheduling and contracting the entertainment for JAZZIZ Bistro, located at the Seminole Hardrock and Casino’s Seminole Paradise. Michael and Lori Fagien, owners of the very popular JAZZIZ magazine, and Burt Rapoport, owner of Max’s Grill in Boca Raton, own this wonderful restaurant/nightclub. There are seven nights a week of entertainment, with two acts performing on most Sundays. JAZZIZ Bistro has brought new income to jazz musicians in our area, new income to the Local 655, and is a very Union friendly location.
