Membership Meeting

The next membership meeting will be held on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Local offices in Hollywood. On the agenda is discussion of the impact of orchestra residencies, such as that of the Cleveland Orchestra, on the south Florida community. Officers and staff will also be available to answer your questions on the new wage scales (to take effect September 1, 2007), access to the Pension Fund, and any other questions you may have.

12/01/06 Ira Sullivan Performs for First Annual Simon Salz Memorial Concert

One of the musical highlights of this season will feature legendary jazz artist, Ira Sullivan, as he fills the University of Miami Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, FL, with music to honor the memory of the late Miami-musician Simon Salz at the first annual Simon Salz Memorial Concert on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at 5:00 pm.

12/01/06 That Union Thing

Pensacola Domino's workers have formed the first pizza delivery drivers' union. Workers were upset when Dominos declared them tipped employees and refused to pay them minimum wage.

Over 100 Wal-Mart workers staged a protest in Hialeah Gardens this past October. They were protesting cuts in hours and a new absentee policy. 

Major League Baseball has reached an agreement on a new five-year collective bargaining agreement. Minimum salaries will rise from  $327,000 to $380,000 and the existing revenue-sharing rules will continue with minor modifications.
