06/01/08 New Director Elected

As a result of nominations and elections held at the May 28, 2008 Membership Meeting, Janet Clippard was elected as Director for the 2008-9 term of office, succeeding Steve Roitstein, who resigned from the position in April.

IATSE Shuts Down Riverdance

An International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) picket line forced the Kravis Center to cancel a performance of Riverdance, resulting in the producer, Abhann Productions, canceling its contract with the Kravis Center and hiring IATSE crews directly to resume performances.

Broadway contributed $5.1 billion to the New York City economy in 2006-7. The figure includes spending on productions as well as spending on hotels, restaurants, and so on by visitors whose primary reason for coming to NYC was to see a Broadway show.
