12/12/11 Broward Cultural Division Presents Creative Investment Program Workshop

Broward Cultural Division invites interested participants from the community to a workshop for the Second Cycle of the Creative Investment Program (a.k.a. Mini Grant Program), offered on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in the Broward County Main Library, Bienes Conference Room, 100 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale. The workshop is offered for individual artists in the Broward County area.

All active members in good standing continuously for one year prior to nomination are eligible to run for office. In accordance with the Local 655 Bylaws, nominations will be taken from the floor, followed by a ballot vote. The newly elected officer shall be installed, and shall take office, immediately after the vote. If you are interested in being nominated you must be present or provide a written statement accepting the nomination prior to the meeting. Should a current Officer be elected, nominations and elections for the resulting vacancy will also be conducted at this meeting. 

12/01/11 AFM Launches Booking and Referral Service

AFM Entertainment, our new online booking and referral service, will handle all communications with a potential purchaser (e.g. the father of the bride). Every gig will be a union gig - net wages will be at or above the local union's wage scales, with the proper work dues and contracts filed. In accordance with the AFM Booking Agent agreement, we'll charge a commission (with a maximum rate of 20%, although in most cases it will be lower).

AFM Entertainment is now accepting registrations from AFM members who are solo artists or leaders of self-contained bands and ensembles.

12/01/11 Local and Industry News

Nicholas Goldsborough has been named Executive Director of the Miami City Ballet. He will replace Pamela Gardiner, who will become the Ballet's Executive Vice President, Artistic Affairs. Goldsborough was most recently president of the national strategic management and fund-raising firm The Nicholas Goldsborough Group LLC. He as also served as managing director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company and was Executive Vice President of the Music Center of Los Angeles County, where he oversaw the planning and managing of the capital campaign for the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Goldsborough hopes to raise a substantial endowment for the Ballet.
