12/01/12 South Florida Musicians Association Encourages Boycott of Palm Beach Symphony

With no explanation, The Palm Beach Symphony has replaced virtually all of the orchestra’s musicians for the 2012-2013 season.  Many of the musicians had performed for the Symphony for nearly a decade or more.  According to Symphony Executive Director Michael Finn, music director Ramon Tebar is in charge of the orchestra roster, and therefore would be responsible for the replacements.

South Florida Musicians Association will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2013. Members who have historical anecdotes, pictures, stories, documents, etc. are encouraged to contact the Local so that we may include the information in our historical timeline. The Kravis Center has been placed on the national AFL-CIO Boycott List. The placement was at the request of the International Association of Theatrical and Stage Employees (IATSE). IATSE has been in a dispute with the Kravis Center since 2000, and since that time the National Labor Relations Board has ruled that the Center has committed unfair labor practices and owes workers at least $2.6 million in back wages for illegally denying them employment.
