01/01/14 That Union Thing

A study by the Alliance for a Just Society shows that 64 percent of job openings in Florida pay less than a living wage, and that there are thirteen job seekers for every job opening that pays at least a living wage.

The NEA and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis has released its first-ever report on the contributions of the arts to the economy. The report, based on 2011 data, shows that creative industries accounted for $504 billion, or at least 3.2 percent of the GDP. By contract, travel and tourist only accounted for 2.8 percent of the GDP. The report also found that the arts suffered more than the overall economy during the Great Recession.
