An agreement has been reached by the state of Florida to save the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Under the plan, Miami-Dade county would use $20 million in bond and bed-tax money to rebuild the theater, GableStage would run and maintain the theater as a professional regional theater, and the FIU theater program would partner with GableStage for its students to receive training and hands-on experience. FIU, Miami-Dade County, and the state of Florida have until October 15 to sign a lease and clear outstanding debts or Florida, which currently owns the theater, would be obligated to put the property up for sale to the highest bidder.

Broward County cultural organizations have received $260,000 in restored cultural funding from the state of Florida. 17 organizations were impacted by the restored funds, including the Symphony of the Americas, All Florida Youth orchestra, and the Performing Arts Center Authority.

Funding Arts Broward (FAB!) has announced a new round of grant recipients. Recipients include: Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra ($6,000 for concerto competition); Association of Performing Arts of India ($5,000 for Spiritual Sound of Violin); Broward Center for the Performing Arts $10,000 for St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra); Florida Grand Opera ($10,000 for Nabucco); Florida Youth Orchestra ($8,000 for Spotlight Family Concert); Gold Coast Jazz Society ($8,000 for Winter/Spring Jazz Project); Master Chorale of South Florida ($7,500 for War and Peace); Miami City Ballet ($9,500 for Nacho Duato's Jardi Tancat); Seraphic Fire ($10,000 for Broward season); and Symphony of the Americas ($12,000 for Classic Events).

Univision's morning program "Despierta America" is giving English-language morning shows a run for their money. Ratings for the show have risen by 28 percent since last year, and the show is the third-most-watched morning show in Los Angeles. Last year, the show's advertising revenue jumped 52 percent, to $163 million. overall, morning programs on broadcast and cable TV earned a combined $1.4 billion in advertising revenue last year.

Florida Grand Opera has appointed Mark Rosenblum as Chief Financial Officer. Rosenblum had previously served as FGO's Chief Operating Officer.

Palm Beach Pops founder Bob Lappin has passed away at age 78. Lappin, a former Pepsi Bottling executive, founded the Pops in 1991 and has served as its music director and conductor. Pops executive director David Quilleon has stated that the Pops Board of Directors has yet to meet to determine the future of the orchestra.
