The Lion King has become the first show to earn $1 billion on Broadway. The show opened in 1997 and is also on track to pass Les Miserables as the fourth longest-running show on Broadway.
The Royal Opera House will be simulcasting nine productions to more than 500 movie theaters in the United States this season. The first simulcast was Puccini's "Turandot" in October. Simulcasts will be held roughly monthly through July 2014 and will include works of Puccini, Verdi, Wagner, and Mozart.
The Detroit Symphony has concluded a record season in fund raising, balancing its budget for the first time since 2007. The Symphony raised a record $18.9 million, up 43 percent from the previous year. The Symphony also increased ticket sales by nearly $1 million, to $6.3 million.
