That Union Thing

A report by the Center for American Progress states that 35 percent of the decline of the middle class in the past 30 years is due to the decline of labor unions. The report notes that union-induced wage increases spill over to nonunion workers. The report also notes that union advocacy also produces economic and social policies that benefit the middle class. According to the Pew Research Center, the number of adults in the middle class has fallen from 61 percent in 1971 to just 50 percent in 2014.
