That Union Thing

Performers at Telemundo are voting on whether to be represented by SAG-AFTRA.

The secret-ballot NLRB election, the first in 65 years at a major television network, is taking place between February 7 and March 8. Performers hope for parity with workers at parent company NBCUniversal, who currently work under a SAG-AFTRA contract

More than 80 percent of writers, reporters, producers, and social media staff at MTV News want to be represented by Writers Guild of America, East. The staff want access to adequate health care, equitable compensation, and a role in crafting editorial policy. If parent company Viacom does not recognize the union and agree to bargain, the union will file with the NLRB for an election.

Housekeepers and guest-room workers at Trump International Hotel Washington have voted to be represented by Unite Here. Bartenders, servers, and other employees of the hotel are expected to vote on union representation in the next few months.
