The opening of the $38.8 million, 966-seat theater in Cutler Bay has been delayed again. The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, originally scheduled to open in August of 2007, will likely not open until as late as 2011. The delays are due to poor workmanship and failed building inspections.

Recording

The Sound Recording Special Payments Fund will make its annual distribution to musicians in August. The deadline for address or beneficiary changes is July 15. For more information, please visit http://www.sound-recording.org .

Symphonic

The Jacksonville Symphony is only expecting to lose $90,000 this season. However, corporate sponsorships for next season, which are generally committed by July of each year, are down, and the orchestra is projecting an $800,000 deficit for next season.

The Dallas Symphony sold a record $11 million in tickets this past season. The record is due in part to the recently completed first season of new music director Jaap van Zweden.

Arizona Opera has consolidated staff positions and reduced salaries across the board, but intends to present a full complement of productions next season.

The St. Louis Symphony has reached a deal on a new 3-year agreement. The new agreement restores some of the cuts imposed in 2001, including increasing the number of weeks from 42 to 43, increasing wages by 5.6 percent, and increasing pension contributions from 5 percent to 7 percent.

The Detroit Symphony has received a $1 million, three-year grant from the Ford Foundation to assist in fund-raising and marketing and to help expand its donor base.
