St. Mary's Episcopal Church Seeks Part-time Organist/Choir Director
St. Mary's Episcopal Church, on East Ocean Blvd in Stuart, Florida, is seeking a Part-time Organist/Choir Director who will provide service music, expand and train the choir and present a broad range of anthems.
St. Mary's has a magnificent Allen Organ and sound system, and a mostly volunteer choir of about 16 people of whom one leader in each section - bass, tenor, alto and soprano - is paid for each service and rehearsal attended. We have a library of about 400 anthems plus a number of hymn and song books, and have a modest budget to update and extend this library at the discretion of the Choir Director.
Job Description: Organist/Choir Director
- Provide organ music and accompaniment for the traditional church services, including 10 minute prelude, three or four hymns, an anthem and a ten minute postlude for each of two Sunday services - one at 9am and one at 11am for October through May, but only one service at 10am, June through September - plus a few extra services on High Holy days.
- Provide choir training at weekly rehearsal each Thursday evening and choir direction for the traditional church services listed above except choir does
- not sing July through August.
- Manage the selection of church music, using traditional references, coordinating with the clergy to provide the Church Office with written selection listings for bulletin preparation each week.
- Manage paid choristers attendance and pay within budget allowance.
- Assist in choir recruitment and development.
- The organist will be paid for fifty-two Sundays and will be responsible for arranging for a supply organist for four Sundays in the summer. St. Mary's will pay the supply organist.
- Salary for this part-time position, (10 to 15 hours/week) will be commensurate with qualifications and experience within the 2010 salary guide of the American Guild of Organists.
- Providing service music for weddings and funerals upon request will be separately paid.
