Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater has announced a $20 million fundraising campaign. $12 million will be used to improve the main hall, including expanding its lobby and increasing street visibility. The remaining $8 million would be used to restore the Capitol Theatre.
A new fund has been formed to help adapt movie titles as musicals. Broadway and Vine, backed by former League of American Theatres and Producers president Jed Bernstein, former News Corp. executive Rich Battista, and movie producer Bob Israel, will help with commissioning teams for script development and staging first readings. Their first project is a stage adaption of the 1984 film "The Flamingo Kid."
