Nelson Armitano, violist, studied at Mannes College and the Manhattan School of Music in New York with Paul Doktor and Lillian Fuchs. He moved to The Netherlands in 1978 after winning the position of Assistant Principal Viola of the Nederlands Balletorkest. A year later became a member of the Nederland Kamerorkest, a position he held for seven years. For a period of three years, between 1985 and 1988, he shared his activities in The Netherlands with collaborations in his hometown, Caracas. He was Assistant Principal viola of the 'Orquesta Sinfonica Venezuela', Principal viola of 'Sinfonieta Caracas' and a member of the Caracas String Trio. Back in The Netherlands, he worked as a free-lancer collaborating with the Radio/TV Nederland's Orchestral System and filling in as Principal of the NordHolland Philharmonic. In 1991 he moved to Spain when hired as Principal of the OSPA, Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturia, in Oviedo. In 1992 won the Principal Viola position at the 'Orquesta de C?rdoba', south of Spain. A post he held until June 2011. Since 2012, he has been playing in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area and teaching privately. He has been colaborating with the Palm Beach Symphony the Florida Grand Opera Orchestra and is a member of Symphony of the Americas.
