Trustee's Report

We have come a very long way. The Local is providing services, membership continues to grow (over 50 reinstatements since September), and our credibility with the Federation is established. Our current claims are in progress and we are currently opening other claims that had to be set aside last year because of legal work load.

With the Local growing so well I perceive the development of the live performance services as the last major obstacle to restructuring of the Local before I can say that my work here is complete. We are all aware that almost of this work is performed without the protection of an AFM agreement. Our initial effort to address this was to create new ways for our members to be able to file contracts. We also provided a way to increase everyone’s opportunity for participation in the Pension Fund. I look forward to building the referral program, particularly if we get into the development of a booking service.

Just as the symphony and recording musicians have responded to our efforts, it is now time for you to respond. If we are called upon to create scales and new employment categories that will generate work, it is the members that communicate with us to whom we must answer. The only guidelines we have to work with are filed contracts; if there are none, then there is no credibility guiding us.

We are going to press on in developing a live performance service for you. Whether it is negotiating new scales, CBAs or developing the referral/booking service, we will rely on the input and support of our members who are willing to file contracts. The smart business musician will jump aboard now and grow with it.
