Boca Pops Ratifies Contract

Term

Five (5) years

Wages

15.1% increase (2.9%, 2.4%, 2.4%, 3.5%, and 3.9%)

Doubles

$6 (1st yr.), $7 (2nd yr.), $8 (3rd yr.), $9 (4th yr.), $10 (5th yr.)

Pension

5% (1st yr.), 6% (2nd yr.), 7% (3rd yr.), 8% (4th & 5th yr.);

now paid on all scale wages including titular pay

Cartage

Increased to Local 655 rates or higher

Services

36 (1st yr.), 40 (2nd yr.), 44 (3rd through 5th years)

Travel

$12.50 & increases $0.50 per year

Parking

Free parking at all services

Auditions

Screens shall be used

Strikes

Not required to cross a lawful AFM primary picket line

Others

Housekeeping changes to arbitration procedure; non-renewal; audition procedure; paycheck duedates; schedule deadlines; music availability; etc.


Florida Philharmonic Ratifies Contract

Term

Two (2) years

wages

Frozen for first year; 4% increase in second year

Conditions:


Mileage paid only to those not utilizing bus provided

Per diems & day rooms at FAU limited to those living over 25 miles distance

All per service musicians will be paid according to extra musician & sub rate

Three (3) contract positions to remain vacant on flexible basis for 2 years

No morning services at Kravis after Miami-Dade services during 98-99 season

New sound shields phased in during 98-99 season, in place for 99-2000

Contract musicians on relief get 1st call for sick musicians before subs

Orchestra Committee to be notified of & entitled to attend meetings at which the Musical Director’s recommendations are made to Audition Committees

Non-Renewal Committee elected annually & results kept in confidence

No tours until tour language is resolved

Written requests for personal leave responded to within 7 business days, if no response it is deemed granted

No morning rehearsals day after Thanksgiving

Non-tenure track contracts for 1-year only. Consecutive non-tenure track contracts for same musician only with approval of Union.

BPO Grievance Settled

A settlement has been reached that addresses the past financial considerations and clarifies the current concertmaster situation with the Boca Pops. Mr. Moore has expressed his sincerest appreciation to Local 655 for its help in resolving this situation.

The musicians have elected the following to committees:

  • Orchestra Committee: Holly Ballard, Margaret Butler, Matt Corey, Richard Fagin, Tom Moore

  • String Audition: Tom Moore, Jacquelyn Moore, Erika Venable

  • Woodwind Audition: Margaret Donaghue, Margaret Butler, Michael DiGregorio

  • Brass Audition: Holly Ballard, Jim Bermann, Stewart Brenner

New BPO Musicians Appointed
