Casual Corner

The Music Performance Trust Fund survived the recent recording negotiations, but over the years funds have been reduced from their one-time peak of $20 million to about half of that amount. In an effort to reduce dependence on the recording industry, MPTF Trustee John Hall has established new policies, effective for the next season. He hopes that high-visibility programs at the local, regional, and national levels will attract new partnerships with corporate and government sponsors. Effective May 1, 1999:

  • Florida (not Local 655) will receive a funding allocation, based on total membership in Florida.
  • Projects will be approved based on excellence (providing a genuine public service with the best music to the largest or highest-profile audiences).
  • Higher cosponsorship percentages will be more likely to be approved.
  • Cosponsor funds must be received by MPTF before the program is performed (TF-2 must be accompanied by a check or a municipal contract).

What this means for you is that there may be more money available for MPTF projects in south Florida, but it will probably be harder to get your project approved.

MPTF Workshops

To assist you in learning how to secure MPTF gigs and properly complete the corresponding paperwork, we will be holding workshops at the Local offices. The first workshop will be held during the week of May 10-14. Please RSVP the Local at (954) 925-1996 to attend a session!
