Member Benefits

In addition to the great return you get from the AFM-Employers Pension Fund when you retire, there are also pre-retirement benefits that you might not know about. Call us for more details.

Pension Fund death benefit

If you should die before you begin receiving your monthly retirement benefit, your beneficiary will receive an amount equal to from 65 to 100 times what your monthly retirement payment would have been if you had retired at age 65 (but no less than $2000-or $4000 if your death was accidental). Even if you are not vested, your beneficiary may still be eligible for the $2000/$4000 amount.

Pension Fund disability benefit

If you should become disabled and unable to work, you may be eligible to receive a monthly payment equal to your monthly Pension Benefit had you retired at age 65. Even if you have fewer than 10 years of vesting service, you may be eligible for a lump sum payment of $2000.

All the more reason to make sure your gigs are under contracts that include contributions to the AFM-EP Fund!

AFM Web Page!

If you haven’t been to the American Federation of Musicians web site recently, you might want to give it another look. The Federation recently redesigned their site, adding lots of new and useful content.

In addition to general information for casual surfers, there are now restricted-access pages available to only AFM members and officers. What can you find there?

  • History of the AFM dating back to 1896.

  • AFM Bylaws

  • News about current events in the music world such as recording contract negotiations, NEA debates, etc.

  • E-mail addresses for Federation staff

  • Addresses and phone numbers of all Locals across the country

In the restricted members-only area, you can look up Signatories and find out what agreements they are signed to. You can also request copies of contracts from Symphonic Services. There is also a Forum where members can leave comments or suggestions and other members and staff can respond to them.
