President's Report

…The recent AFM convention in Las Vegas was much more productive than the one in 1997, which was marked by much division. This convention had a much more positive and forward thinking attitude…

Although much of the agenda put forth by the Investigative Task Force (ITF) wasn’t adopted, some portions of the report were adopted and many other important concepts and ideas were advanced. Like most legislative bodies, it takes time to change things, but I believe the work of the ITF did not go in vain…

I had the pleasure of serving on the Public Relations Committee this year, and one of the issues we grappled with was the idea set forth in 1995 regarding hiring a full-time professional PR advisor to help put forth a positive image for the AFM. The Scale Committee has wrapped up it’s work and has done a wonderful job advancing the cause of the working musician. Many ideas from other Locals around the country have been incorporated into our scales to improve fairness and clarity. The members of the Scale Committee deserve your thanks and appreciation. Please make every effort to attend the upcoming meeting, the most important of the year, to make your voice heard regarding new scales, By-law updates, and the nominations for all Officers

…I’ll stay in touch, you do the same…
