The Arts DO have Impact!

A study done shows the following facts about the arts in New England:

  • Total impact of nonprofit arts organizations: $3.9 Billion.
  • Income generated by cultural tourism: $6.6 Billion.
  • Arts and culture are the fastest-growing segment of the New England economy.
  • The arts in New England support 247,000 jobs (equal to the computer equipment industry and more than the software and medical technology industries.

These are remarkable numbers and show that government and businesses in all parts of the country should not ignore the impact of the arts in their communities.

From the Casual Rep…

My emphasis for these first few months has been getting the word out to freelance musicians about the many benefits of joining Local 655. Using my own roster of musicians I’ve played with and contacts I’ve developed locally, I’ve been encouraging membership and asking people to alert their circle of players regarding Union membership.

I have also researched the largest of the Florida companies and zeroed in on those companies paying the largest bonuses to their executives. I’m targeting these companies as cosponsors for MPTF concerts and have made initial contacts, figuring that monies are more likely available for music if bonuses are being paid to the executives...

Paperwork, phone calls, and learning my way around the office have occupied a lot of my time, but I look forward to meeting freelance players in the future and hearing their comments and suggestions.
