Recording Rap

September 13th I was watching the Latin Grammys and I was so proud to see some of our Local’s musicians playing for the awards; from the opening musical tribute to the late Tito Puente until the end of the show featuring the Miami Sound Machine. Let’s hope Miami can host this event in the near future. As each category was being judged I noticed how many projects and contracts our musicians were on. That’s the reason our recording totals have risen this past year! Congratulations to Kike Santander for winning best songwriter category for Best Regional Song "Mi Verdad", and to Emilio Estefan Jr. for winning Best Music Video, for Gloria’s, "No Me Dejes De Querer" and for Producer of the Year. Many thanks to all our musicians who are putting Miami on the map.

Dick Gabriel visited our Local during the month of August. We had appointments with a few Independent Labels to sign them up as Signatories to the Phono Agreement. We also scheduled courtesy calls with BMG and Fonovisa. Fonovisa canceled our appointment, which may have had something to do with their displeasure with the Latin Grammy’s. BMG US Latin is a Signatory and I will be doing a tutorial with their staff this month and give you an update in the next newsletter.

I now have a contract for musicians that are doing arranging. I know you can list the arranging fee on a B-4 contract along with other musicians. If you are interested, please call me and I will send you the contract along with the scale for page rates.
