Local 655 Awards MPTF Scholarships

South Florida Musicians Association recently awarded three scholarships (two for $750 and one for $500) for the 2001-2 academic year, courtesy of the Music Performance Trust Funds. The winners are:

Yoonah Oh

Yoonah is a Keyboard Performance and Music Business and Entertainment Industries major pursuing a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Miami. Yoonah grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and began playing the piano at age 3. Yoonah has performed with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra, has soloed with the Albany Park Orchestra, and won first prize in the Sunhwa Arts School competition and third prize in the Korean Herald Competition.

Mirna Mirkov

Mirna is a pianist pursuing a Master's degree in the Chamber Music program at the University of Miami. Mirna was born in Vrsac in Yugoslavia and began playing piano at the age of 6. Mirna earned her bachelor of music degree in piano performance in 1998 at the Academy of Arts, studying with renowned pianist Kemal Gekic. In 1993 Mirna won third prize at the "'Concurso Musicale Europeo" (Moncalieri, Italy). Mirna is currently a graduate teaching assistant studying under Dr. Paul Posnak.


Andrei Moiseyev

Andrei is a trumpeter pursuing a Bachelor's degree at the University of Miami. Andrei won the all-Russian national competition in 1993 and attended the Interlochen Arts Academy for two years. This past fall he won a position in the Miami Symphony Orchestra.
