Plans were unveiled for the new opera house being built by Palm Beach Opera adjacent to CityPlace in West Palm Beach. The 1500-seat hall, currently with a $50 million price tag, is to be patterned along the intimate lines of Milan’s La Scala, in a traditional horseshoe shape.

The Boca Pops held a successful benefit concert on April 1 at the Boca Hotel. The full orchestra played under the direction of Crafton Beck to several hundred patrons and benefactors. It has been several years since the Pops has held a benefit concert despite the fact that there are provisions for it in the collective bargaining agreement. The funds raised should help to put the Pops on better financial footing, especially in light of their change in concert venue from FAU Auditorium to Spanish River Auditorium next season.

Congratulations FPO Audition Winners!

JUDD TO LEAVE FPO

Florida Phil Music Director James Judd has announced that he is leaving the orchestra following the 2002-3 season, after 14 years at the helm. He will assume the title of Music Director Laureate following his resignation.
