Supporting Arts Pays Dividends

The arts play a major role in healing the nation in times of crisis, but it seems that they have an enormous economic impact as well. A recent study by the Georgia Institute of Technology for Americans for the Arts found that the nonprofit arts industry generates $134 billion in economic activity each year and supports 4.85 million full-time equivalent jobs. The industry also generates $24.4 billion in tax revenues each year—more than eight times the $3 billion the government spends on the arts.
