In Memoriam: Sam Faso, 83

Sam, a member of Local 655 since 1946 and also a member of Local 802, was a veteran of WWII and an alumni of the US Army Band. He had performed with and for many celebrities and dignitaries, including Tony Randall and Cary Grant. He is survived by two sons, a stepdaughter, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Bylaw Amendments Proposed by Executive Board, 5 June 2003

Proposal 1

Whereas the work dues from the FPO accounts for a significant portion of the Local's income, and

Whereas the bankruptcy of the FPO has a significant financial impact on the Local, and

Whereas the Local is projecting deficits of $30-50,000 per year due to the loss of revenue from FPO work dues, be it

Resolved, Article V Section 4. CASUAL WORK DUES CREDITS: DELETE IN ITS ENTIRETY

The Bylaw Committee reports favorably on this motion.

Proposal 2

Whereas the work dues from the FPO accounts for a significant portion of the Local's income, and

Whereas the bankruptcy of the FPO has a significant financial impact on the Local, and

Whereas the Local is projecting deficits of $30-50,000 per year due to the loss of revenue from FPO work dues, and

Whereas payroll is the Local's largest expense, and

Whereas the President has the authority to employ business reps as needed at a salary determined by the Executive Board, and

Whereas it is not unusual for officers of a Local to also collect an additional salary, set by the Executive Board, for business rep duties, and

Whereas the flexibility of adjusting business rep salary as needed and the ability to appoint persons other than officers to business rep positions would assist the Local in more quickly adjusting to changing circumstances, be it

Resolved, Article VII Section 2. DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS

(a)The President shall:

7. Communicate at least monthly during the orchestra’s season with the committees of each orchestra having a collective bargaining agreement with the Local

2. Serve as Business Representative for Recording activities and in this capacity shall make a minimum number of on-site visits. This minimum number of visits shall be determined by the Executive Board.

3. Be an ex-officio member of the Recording Musicians Committee.

The Bylaw Committee recommends striking the indicated language except as follows:

Article VII Section 2 (a) 6: Serve as Business Representative including Symphonic Representative.

Proposal 4

Whereas the Local has a duty to represent musicians, and

Whereas AFM Bylaws require Locals to employ at least one representative whose duties include communicating with musicians in the Local's jurisdiction, be it

Resolved, NEW: Article VII Section 5

The Local shall employ Business Representatives for Casual, Recording, and Symphony as needed.

The Bylaw Committee reports unfavorably on this motion.
