Alfredo Oliva called to let me know he had played for the “Heroes Awards” at the Oriental Mandarin Hotel in Miami. This was a tribute to Juan Luis Guerra. Members of the band included Ed Calle, Juan Salazar, Jeff Carswell, Richard Bravo, Alfredo, Orlando Forte, Chauncey Patterson and Chris Glansdorp. During a press conference at the hotel the nominees were announced for the Fourth Annual Latin Grammy Awards. Miami’s group “Bacilos” picked up six nominations, more that any other artist. Included were Record of the Year, Album of The Year, and two nominations for Song of the Year for the title track and Mi Primer Millon.
I attended the “Taste of Wilton Manors” this past Monday. The entertainment was provided by the Chris Glansdorp String Quartet with Chris, Alfredo Oliva, Dale Sandvold and Karen Hebermehl playing beautiful selections. A classy touch to the event.

We are planning a Local 655 instrument swap during the month of September. Be sure to check the Web site for date and venue as we are still in the planning stages. We’ve had many inquiries to rent table space and want our first swap to be a success.
