Board member Steve Roitstein is now President of the Miami Chapter of AMP (American Music Producers). Steve, a Commercial Producer, has Riot Music and also is head of our Recording Committee. He has an extensive background in both recording and commercial work.  Our Commercial department has grown from $63,500 on contracts in 1998 to over $290,500 on contracts in 2003. During that time quite a few new producers have joined our Local. For more information on AMP, e-mail Steve at steve[at]riotmusic[dot]com or check out the AMP website at ampnow.com.

President Walker and I attended the Digital Download Negotiations in New York City in April. We discussed what kind of fund will be set up to distribute contributions to musicians that are on recording report forms, how it will be administered, and to whom the money should be paid for digital performance. More digital negotiations are scheduled for the first week in June and I will continue to update everyone. Please call me at the local if you have any questions.

Many musicians will be receiving checks in July from the Film Musicians Secondary Market Fund and in August from the Sound Recording Special Payments Fund. During the year I’ve had quite a few musicians join or rejoin the union. I’ve put them in touch with the funds to verify addresses and update beneficiaries. Two musicians that work for the Estefans had money sitting in the Phono Special Payments Fund (one had money there since 1999). He had dropped out of the union, changed his address and the fund couldn’t find him. Our local updates address changes with the AFM so please spread the word to your fellow musicians.

Wishing everyone a safe summer and please call me with any new recording projects or questions.
