Cliff's Notes

The Right Frame of Mind

All it took was the right frame of mind. I am happy to report that since mid-December, your Local 655 has been scheduling and contracting the entertainment for JAZZIZ Bistro, located at the Seminole Hardrock and Casino’s Seminole Paradise. Michael and Lori Fagien, owners of the very popular JAZZIZ magazine, and Burt Rapoport, owner of Max’s Grill in Boca Raton, own this wonderful restaurant/nightclub. There are seven nights a week of entertainment, with two acts performing on most Sundays. JAZZIZ Bistro has brought new income to jazz musicians in our area, new income to the Local 655, and is a very Union friendly location. Please stop by the club and enjoy the talent, this place is beautiful!

The key part to take note of in my JAZZIZ announcement above is the word CONTRACT. We signed over 60 CONTRACTS with JAZZIZ, placing more than 30 acts, consisting of duos to sextets. In a month and a half, over 150 musicians have played their stage. The Union bands receive their pension, work dues are paid, and the musicians are protected by contracts. For a nightclub, in our area, this is amazing. All it took was the right frame of mind. I feel that the Local can work with many more clubs, restaurants, and casinos of all diversification. We will be actively reaching out to these venues to see if they can use our quality Union talent. Your promo packs will be needed to show off your act, so please drop, mail, or email your promotional material to the Local.

With the right frame of mind, the sky’s the limit. You see, the reason we could sign JAZZIZ is because we have the talent, and talent is what a jazz club thrives on. UNION/NON-Union does not matter to the club owner, talent does; talent entertains, talent draws, and talent makes them money. We brought them talent, so we have the gig. The same holds true for the orchestras that will play places like the PAC (Performing Arts Center in Miami); they will need the talent. The very stature of the PAC will demand that the orchestras be nothing but the best. Talent will determine the success of the PAC. The talent is in the UNION; therefore it will be in the PAC. With the right frame of mind, every local Orchestra playing the PAC can be under CONTRACT. All it takes is talent and the right frame of mind.

Proud to Represent You, Clifford P. Walker
