Playing a nonunion gig with lousy wages and no pension or job security? Think it can’t get better and you have to live with it?
Why do the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra and the musicians playing for the Broadway Series have a union contract? Because they stood together as a group and decided they deserved better; they worked together to achieve something they could not have done alone. That’s what the “Union” is about.
If you work under one of these contracts, you do so because of a gift from your colleagues past and present. And we have an obligation to continue the work they have done...only by getting more work under contract and bringing in new members can we hope to build on our strength.
