Double Times

Renaissance Chamber Orchestra

Since our last issue, the Orchestra has ceased operations and the entire Board of Directors has resigned, leaving the musicians unpaid for most of the summer series. However, we’ve learned of other avenues to pursue payment for the musicians and will continue to follow those leads until musicians are paid.

Florida Philharmonic

In an 11th hour play, the FPO has changes its position and will not object to ticket holders’ claims being treated as priority claims. This would mean that $1.3 million in ticket holder claims would be paid in full before the musicians received the bulk of their claims, effectively reducing the amount the musicians would receive by perhaps half. Needless to say, we will be objecting to this, although it may further delay the date when claims will be paid.

Other News

We have begun talks with Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia, the Las Olas Studio Orchestra. We have also negotiated to get the Key West Pops to pay symphonic rather than casual scale, which means more money for musicians. We also recently met with the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra Committee and Symphonic Services Negotiator Chris Durham in preparation for upcoming negotiations.
