Agenda: Amendments to the Bylaws

 

PROPOSAL #1 

ARTICLE VII Section 2. DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS

The President shall:

3.      Serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Local.

5.      Visit places in the jurisdiction where musicians are performing.

7.      Hold monthly orientations for new members.

The Bylaw Committee reports favorably on this proposal. 

PROPOSAL #2

ARTICLE XI Section 1. STANDING COMMITTEES

(d)  Education/Recruitment Committee: This committee shall be in charge of educating potential members and the public about the object of the Local.

(e)    Public Relations Committee: This committee shall be in charge of promoting the interests of the Local and its members to the general public. 

(h)    Organizing Committee: This committee shall be in charge of organizing collective bargaining units.

NEW SECTION: Theater Musicians Committee: This committee shall be in charge of reviewing matters of interest to musicians playing theater engagements.

The Bylaw Committee reports favorably on this proposal with the proviso that the following change also be made to prevent inconsistency in the Bylaws:

ARTICLE VII Section 2.d Executive Board

15. Designate each Executive Board member, except the President, to serve on as chair of at least one standing committee.

 

PROPOSAL #3 

 WHEREAS: It is in the best interest of the Local that the officers assigned to achieve its fundamental objectives as stated in Article II of the bylaws be those elected by popular vote of the membership, and

WHEREAS:The President, as Chief Executive Officer currently earns an annual salary of $2600, and

WHEREAS: The Executive Board has, in recent history appointed from among its members business representatives, the term and duties of which are unspecified by the bylaws, and the salaries of which exceed that of the President ‑ therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED; That Article VII of the Bylaws of Local 655 be amended as follows:

Section 2. DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS

(a) The President shall:

3. Serve as the Chief Executive of the Local, with primary responsibility for the conduct of the business of the Local and overseeing the activities of its officers and employees.

6. Have authority, with the approval when deemed necessary and subject to confirmation of the Executive Board, to appoint nominate business agents and other personnel representatives to assist in executing the business of the Local.

8. NEW SECTION Maintain an office presence commensurate with the duties of Chief Executive Officer.

Section 3. WAGES AND BENEFITS

(a) Officers of the Local shall receive wages as follows:

1. President: $2600 $26,000 per year, paid weekly.

3. Secretary ‑ Treasurer: $15,000 $17,500 per year, paid weekly.

Section 5. BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVES for Casual, Recording and Symphony may be appointed by the respective Standing Committee subject to Executive Board approval may be nominated by the President, subject to confirmation by majority vote of the Executive Board. Nominees may be Directors or Vice President, but neither the President nor the Secretary ‑ Treasurer shall be appointed Business Representatives. Nominees will have no ballot in their own confirmation. Activities of Business Representatives shall be directed by the President. The term of appointment shall not exceed twenty-six weeks except in the case of renewal of the appointment by the Executive Board, and the salary of a Business Representative shall not exceed $250 per week.

 The Bylaw Committee reports with no comment on this proposal.

PROPOSAL #4

 NEW SECTION Article IX Section 5 Election: If there is only one nominee for an office, that candidate shall be automatically elected and no ballot vote shall be necessary for that office.

The Bylaw Committee reports favorably on this proposal.
