Music Performance Fund in the Schools

Local 655 is presenting a series of coordinated performances which are appropriate for school children who attend grades 4 through 8.

The performing musicians represent various musical traditions from around the world. The interactive performances are also linked to a study guide with internet links which allow the teacher to prepare the children for the concerts. A third grade student in Miami can experience live music from some of the finest musicians in South Florida and have an opportunity to interact with them.  It also means that some of the students will find a positive direction in their lives due to the actions of Local 655.

As professional musicians, we are currently living in a period where “live music” has been “de-valued”.  One of the goals of the MPF is to encourage the leading musicians of our community to step forward and help to rebuild the value of musical training and performance.  This means instilling qualities like attention to detail, developing musical skills and talents, receiving the benefit of time-training over many years of practice, self-discipline and, most of all, respect for oneself and others.  When young people see role models who represent these qualities, they prosper and do well in life.  Let’s not lose this age old tradition of musical learning and brotherhood.

The Music Performance Fund is the world’s largest sponsor of live, admission-free musical performances.  Its sole purpose is to render a public service by presenting live, admission-free musical performances.
