Music Performance Fund Announces Changes
The Music Performance Fund (MPF) has announced changes to its funding policy, effective with the fiscal year beginning May 2008.- Instead of allocating funds on a state-by-state basis, all AFM Locals will have access to the same pool of funding.
- Projects will be approved based on the merits of the project and there are no guarantees that projects will be approved; musicians are advised to wait for approval from MPF before proceeding with projects.
- Priority will be given to projects presenting jazz in the schools, community concerts, and other educational concerts.
- MPF hopes to supplement recording industry funding with grants and musicians are encouraged to provide documentation from MPF concerts (letters from students, pictures, etc.) to assist them in their applications.
Should you have any questions about the new policies, please contact the Local.
Music Performance Fund (MPF) is a non-profit, tax-exempt public service organization under section 501 (c) of the Internal Revenue Code. MPF is the world's largest sponsor of live, admission-free musical programs. The Fund was established in 1948 by the recording companies of North America and the American Federation of Musicians as part of their collective bargaining agreement. A small royalty on the sale of some recorded music is contributed to the Fund by signatory recording companies, and these funds are supplemented by co-sponsoring organizations. There is never an admission charge for MPF performances, and its performances cannot be used to raise money, sell merchandise, or promote political or religious events.
