Musicians Picket FGO

Musicians have picketed performances of Florida Grand Opera's production of La Traviata in protest of the outsourcing of the orchestra.

The musicians continue to fight for job security for the musicians who perform for Florida Grand Opera. They believe artistic control should rest with the Music Director. All of the opera companies in the top fifteen metropolitan areas of the United States, except the FGO, hire their orchestras directly, and the musicians believe the FGO should raise the standard of musical excellence by doing so as well.

Special thanks goes to Iris Van Eck, who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in supporting her fellow musicians' rights to job security and union representation. By working together, musicians can insist on a working environment that will allow them to focus on performing to the highest level, and not be distracted by concerns that they might be fired without warning or just cause for reasons over which they have no control.
