That Union Thing

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) plans to ask members to authorize a strike. SAG has been unable to reach an agreement with studios over residuals for Internet productions and new media payments. The previous contract expired June 30, and 75 percent of members would need to vote favorably before the national board could call a strike.

 

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers has signed an agreement with Subway to institute a penny-per-pound surcharge to increase wages for Florida tomato harvesters. Subway joins Yum! Brands, McDonalds, Burger King, and Whole Foods in agreeing to support a more humane agricultural industry in Florida. Subway also agreed to apply the higher standards not just to tomatoes, but along its entire supply chain.

While Broward teachers are still fighting to guarantee wage increases for next year, the Broward School Board has reached an agreement with food service workers, bus drivers, custodians, and teacher aides to provide 3.25 percent wage increases for this year.
