That Union Thing

Hundreds of teachers and supporters, including Local 655 members, attended the Broward Teachers Union protest at the school district headquarters.

Negotiations have reached a standstill, with the School Board offering pay raises and a 46 percent increase in dependent health care costs, and teachers arguing that this amounts to a pay cut, and asking for an average 4 percent raise. The Miami-Dade school board recently granted pay raises to their teachers.

More than 200 composers and lyricists have signed representation cards requesting union representation through the Teamsters. The artists are asking to restore human dignity through health benefits, basic working conditions, a living wage, and pension benefits.
