That Union Thing

A lawsuit against Fox Searchlight over unpaid internships is seeking class-action status.

The lawsuit charges that Fox violated minimum wage and overtime laws. While the Fair Labor Standards Act allows unpaid internships if interns receive an educational benefit, the Department of Labor has made it clear that unpaid interns cannot be used to replace regular employees. The plaintiffs seek to include all who participated in Fox Entertainment Group internships, claiming that they performed crucial services as production assistants, bookkeepers, secretaries, and janitors, and were required to complete I-9 forms and confidentiality agreements and were covered under workers compensation laws.

After a ten year battle, TSA workers finally have their first collective bargaining agreement. The agreement between the TSA and AFGE will improve fair treatment and due process for employees with a new dispute resolution process.
