That Union Thing

After four years of stagnant wages, Broward County teachers are finally getting a pay raise.

A new agreement reached by the County and the Broward Teachers Union calls for a base two percent increase, with newer teachers at the lowest pay levels also receiving unspecified bonuses.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, south Florida median income has fallen fourteen percent in the last five years. The Bureau also reported that the number of individuals living in poverty has increased, from 8.5 percent in Broward County and 6.7 percent in Palm Beach County five years ago, to over 11 percent this year.

According to a survey by PNC Wealth Management, half of Florida's affluent residents have seen their wealth increase by twenty percent since 2007. Their optimism optimism for an economic recovery has also risen from nine percent last year to twenty-six percent this year.
