Former Major League Baseball catcher Mike Piazza will be performing with the Miami City Ballet. He will have a brief walk-on role as a gangster in a production of Slaughter on Tenth Avenue. Piazza was a member of the Florida Marlins for five games in 1998, and his daughter is currently a student at the Miami City Ballet School.Arts Garage will remain at the Delray Beach Old School Square for at least another two years. The law firm of Kanner and Pintaluga had offered the city $2.5 million for the space, but the city decided to give the nonprofit two and a half years to raise $2.5 million to buy the space itself. The Pineapple Grove Arts District, where the space is located, was created specifically to use the arts to revitalize the area.
The Malz Jupiter Theatre has received a $1.5 million challenge grant from Roe Green and her foundation as part of its $2.5 million renovation. The renovation will add 62 seats to the theater, as well as add executive offices and expand the lobby and restrooms. Construction is expected to be completed in October 2013.

Federal Judge Richard Sullivan has ruled that ReDigi has violated copyright law by enabling the resale of pre-owned digital music files. The suit was brought by Vivendi's Capitol Records. The judge ruled that an illegal reproduction takes place when the digital music files change hands, and therefore does not fall under fair use.

The Jacksonville Symphony has reached an agreement on a new contract. The Orchestra had earlier this season imposed a 20 percent pay cut and reduced the season by four weeks, to 33 weeks. The agreement reached spits the difference, with musicians agreeing to an 11 percent reduction in salary, and a season length of 35 weeks. The new two-year contract will run through the 2013-14 season.
The South Florida Symphony has received a $10,000 challenge grant from Joseph Griffin and Mary Lou Schillinger. The grant will be applied towards the orchestra's $30,000 Spring Fever Challenge.
The Cleveland Orchestra has received $2.5 million from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The grant will be used in part to support unconventional programming such as opera and ballet. The first project will be a semi-staged production of Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen.
The Cleveland Orchestra has received $10 million from the Cleveland Foundation, the largest grant by the Foundation since it was founded 99 years ago. The grant will be used for day-to-day operations and as a leadership gift in the "Sound for the Centennial" campaign. The Orchestra will celebrate its centennial in 2018.
The New World Symphony has received $50,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts. The grant will be used to prepare fellows for musical leadership positions through the Symphony's Professional Development Program.
The Sarasota Orchestra has received $12,500 from the National Endowment for the Arts for the Sarasota Music Festival. The three-week Festival provides residential training for college-age students.
The Miami-Dade County Public Schools has received $30,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts for "Cultural Passport: The Music Team." The program, in partnership with the Cleveland Orchestra, provides activities and educational materials for students in elementary school through high school.
The Miami Music Project has received $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to support a presentation by the Amernet String Quartet. The Quartet, in residence at Florida International University, will perform with the MMP Honors Orchestra and at MMP orchestral Academy chapters.
