Two documentaries telling of the music scene in Miami have recently been released.

Deep City: The Birth of the Miami Sound, produced by public television station WLRN, tells the story of the Liberty City-based label Deep City. Deep City's co-creator Willie Clarke and songwriter Clarence Reed would later be key players at TK Records, helping to produce disco hits for groups such as KC and the Sunshine Band. Miami Boheme, to be aired nationally on PBS, tells the story of Latin fusion bands in Miami.

Recording

Film Florida recently held a "Rally in Tally" in support of bills in the Florida House and Senate that would provide tax credits for film production. The State Senate is proposing $300 million in tax credits over six years, and the House is proposing $200 million. According to Film Florida, past tax credits have delivered a 5.6-to-1 return on investment and the credits are necessary to compete with other states such as Georgia and Louisiana.

Symphony

Former Miami City Ballet Conductor Ottavio de Rosa has passed away at age 91. De Rosa had also served as conductor of the New York City Ballet under choreographer George Balanchine. De Rosa served as conductor for Miami City Ballet from its founding in 1986 until his retirement in 2000.
