Last Month at the Local

Did you know that the Music Performance Trust Fund offers grants for free, public concerts? Last month we spoke to two organizations about applying for funding, which is done through the Local 655 offices. The Miami Jazz Coop will be presenting free, public lunchtime concerts at Alamo Park at Jackson Memorial Hospital during the months of December and January courtesy of MPTF grants. Please contact us if you would like more information. Thank you to those that attended the November membership meeting. We did not have a quorum, but we did have a lively discussion. Membership meetings are a good way to network with other members and to let our officers know about issues of concern. As we are a democratic organization, meetings are also a way for members to influence the policies of the Local. We will have at least three membership meetings in 2016, and we encourage you to attend. Dates will be published in future newsletters and on our events calendar.

We had several meetings this month to get input from members. Secretary-Treasurer Apana and Directors Dixon and Aron met with the orchestra for the Miami City Ballet to talk to them about the Local and the benefits of membership. Secretary-Treasurer Apana also met with the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra Committee in preparation for upcoming contract negotiations. Vice President Satterwhite has spoken to musicians performing for Broadway Across America about the impact of our new hiring list contract language. We look forward to hearing your input.

As a final note, we'd like to remind members to submit their promotional information for our referral and teacher referral lists. Having your information on file helps us when we get calls from people looking for musicians or music teachers. Members can submit their information here: http://www.afm655.org/members/tools/promo.php
