That Union Thing
New York City Councilman Brad Lander has introduced the Freelance Isn't Free Act. If adopted by the City Council, the bill would require employers to sign a written contract with a set payment deadline for any freelance work valued at more than $200. The bill would allow the Department of Consumer Affairs to assess double damages for violations, as well as jail late-paying employers for up to three months. The Freelancers Union claims that freelancers in New York City lose an average of $6,000 per year in unpaid services.Write reply
