That Union Thing

The District of Columbia Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals has upheld the NLRB ruling that Lancaster Symphony musicians are employees and are therefore eligible to organize for union representation, possibly ending the nine-year dispute.

The court noted that the symphony "regulates virtually all aspects of the musicians' performance" and that "the conductor exercises virtually dictatorial authority."

Dane County Circuit Court Judge William C. Foust has struck down Wisconsin's "right-to-work" law. While similar efforts in other states have failed, in Wisconsin, Supreme Court precedent requires money as the only form of just compensation for services rendered. It is expected that Attorney General Brad Schimel will appeal the ruling.
