That Union Thing

According to Congress' Joint Economic Committee, the number of jobs in Florida has grown but wages have not.

Since 2007, private sector jobs in Florida have increased by 5.3 percent, ahead of the national average of 4.9 percent and placing Florida 14th among states. However, median income in Florida has fallen 12 percent, ahead of the national average of 6.45 percent and placing Florida among the bottom six states. Poverty in Florida also increased from 12.5 percent in 2013 to 16.7 percent in 2014, the 12th largest increase in the country.

Uber drivers in New York City will have union representation. Drivers will be represented by the Independent Drivers Guild, which is a newly formed branch of the International Association of Machinists.

Walt Disney World cafeteria workers want a union. An overwhelming majority of the workers have signed cards indicating that they would like to be represented by UNITE HERE. Most of the Disney workers already have union representation, but the cafeteria workers are subcontracted by Sodexo. The cafeteria workers have been complaining about erratic scheduling, short-notice relocation, and being retaliated against if they complain.
