Last Month at the Local

Despite new regulations to aid in bringing musical instruments on airplanes, musicians continue to have problems.

Airlines are required to allow musicians to carry on instruments if there is room on the flight and instruments fit safely in overhead compartments or under seats, but there are still flight attendants and pilots that are not familiar with the policies. It is always good to bring a copy of the regulations and the airlines' own policies with you to the gate. Are you owed money? Do you have a complaint about a discriminatory policy at a club or orchestra? The Local website now has a complaint form that you can use to let us know about your troubles. We will do our best to assist you. You can file your complaints here: http://www.afm655.org/members/tools/delinquent.php

You may have heard that the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra will be accompanying Andrea Bocelli when he performs at the American Airlines Arena on February 12, 2017. This will be the first time the singer will not be using local musicians when he performs in south Florida. We are concerned about this development and have already been in touch with our colleagues in Orlando to discuss ways to make sure our local musicians are not being undercut by musicians from out of town. You can be assured that we will continue to monitor for and fight against outsourcing of our local musicians.
