Last Month at the Local

Last month the AFM started its new leadership training program for Local officers.

The AFM had a similar program in the past, but that program ended more than a decade ago. Local officers felt leadership training was so important that they passed a resolution at an AFM Convention requiring the AFM to reinstate the program. The first class of fifteen met in Madison, Wisconsin this month, and included Local 655 Secretary-Treasurer Apana. Participants learned about labor history and techniques for problem-solving, and practiced crafting vision statements and strategic plans and analyzing strengths and opportunities. The AFM intends to conduct these three-day workshops twice each year for selected participants. The AFM is also conducting AFM-centric educational programs at the AFM regional conferences (see last month) and will be publishing webinars in the next month or so on the nuts and bolts of working as a Local officer.
