Executive Board Meeting Number 00-3, 16 March 2000

Meeting called to order at 10:20am. In attendance were President Graves, Vice President Fox, Treasurer Apana, Recording Secretary Bahler, Tim Barnes, and Guy Scafati.

The minutes of 2/23/00 were read and approved. The report of new and reinstated members was approved, as well as the list of resignations and suspensions.

Lisa Fox reported that electronic media income is up to $880,000 for 1999. Final figures will be available next month. Discussion of STAR Campaign and the upcoming filming of an Arturo Sandoval documentary.

Jeff Apana presented the most recent budget figures and discussed FPO payment of work dues. Discussion of decline in amount of work dues coming in various fields. MPTF money is being underutilized by members of the Local.

Peter Graves gave updates on the Florida Philharmonic arbitrations and grievances, as well as ongoing status of situations with the Palm Beach Opera, Boca Pops, Miami Chamber Symphony, Miami City Ballet SFX, and Symphony of the Americas.

Old Business: Discussion of the Millennium Membership Drive which is set for July. MSC to proceed with this drive. Lisa Fox was designated as the local delegate to the FL/GA conference. MSC was made to pay her expenses for the one day trip. Peter Graves reported on the three MPTF scholarship winners. MSC to give the winners each one year subscriptions of the International Musician and the #655 newsletter. Discussion of the need to find a member to chair the life member meetings. Discussion of the idea of creating a teacher payroll service and of crafting a questionnaire to find out what teachers would like to have in this kind of service. MSC to put an insert in the April newsletter about this. Discussion of union members who reside in this area, but have not joined this Local. MSC to waive local initiation fee for AFM members who join this Local by June 1 and to send a direct mailing apprising them of this information.

New Business: Consideration of scheduling future member meetings in West Palm Beach or at University of Miami, in recognition of the wide geographical area that this Local serves.

Leslie Bahler presented to Peter Graves petitions requesting the deletion of the Insurance premium and its $30 assessment. Request sent to the Bylaw Committee for recommendation.
