Regular Executive Board Meeting Number 03-8, 18 August 2003 at  12:30 pm

Meeting called to order at 12:38 pm. Present: Graves, Fox, Apana, Ballard, Harp, Jefferson, Luger, Raimondi.

MSC to approve minutes of July 21 and August 4, 2003 meetings as amended. Roitstein arrived at 12:45 pm.

Secretary-Treasurer’s Report: presentation of activities log, expense report, membership rolls, bank balance data, and new members. MSC to approve new members. Receipt of communications from I. Naruns, T. Lee, M. Pines, and Dunn & Bradstreet. Apana reports on member survey results, membership losses, 2004 budget and potential business rep expense. Apana reports on the book, Bowling Alone, presenting information on the decline of social capital in America and how rebuilding social capital through increasing communication, education, and networking can help strengthen the Local.

AFM Secretary-Treasurer Florence Nelson and International Representative Don Shumate were welcomed to the meeting.

Special Orders: Discussion of FPO bankruptcy. Graves reports that he is soliciting bankruptcy attorneys and whether there will be a need to have one present at the August 22 hearing. Extended discussion of the distrust, communication problems, and misinformation between the Local and its members. MSC (by Harp) to provide legal representation as reasonable and necessary for the FPO bankruptcy.

MSC (by Apana) to adjourn until 10:00 am on August 19. The meeting adjourned at 2:00pm.
