Broward Cultural Division will offer a grantwriting workshop to aid applicants for the Community Arts Education Partnership (CAEP) Grant Program, on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. in the Main Library, Broward Cultural Division, Fifth Floor Conference Room, 100 S. Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. This incentive program is highly recommended to teaching artists and individual artists who are looking to develop community-based arts education collaborations.

State Representative Tom Goodson (R-Titusville) has sponsored a bill that would prevent county governments from enacting wage theft ordinances. Supporters of the bill fear a patchwork of different county ordinances across the state, but have failed to propose a statewide wage theft protection program. Miami-Dade county's wage theft ordinance has already recovered $900,000 in wages in the short time since its passage.

The Town Square Neighborhood Development Corp. is is asking lawmakers to consider the impact to the Arsht Center before approving construction of a mega-casino nearby. Malaysia's Genting Group is proposing to build a $3 billion-plus casino resort on the current site of the Omni complex and the Miami Herald, between Biscayne Bay, Biscayne Boulevard, I-395, and the MacArthur Causeway. Town Square Neighborhood Development is concerned over the parking and traffic issues that would be created for the Arsht Center if the casino is built nearby.
